InSPIRAtions Youth Company trip to Wales
TweetEleven DFA students recently returned from a sponsored trip to Wales, accompanied by CEO Philip Boyd and teacher/choreographer Christopher Kindo. They perford in the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff in July. Mzansi Cymru, an international collaboration linking South Africa and Wales, is an arts project spearheaded by Valleys Kids, a community development charity based in the South Wales Valleys. The collaboration, which forms part of the Wales Cultural Olympiad, a spectacular large-scale performance entitled Torchbearers. The DFA students, with Cape Town partners Zip Zap Circus, the Fezeka Choir and Amampondo, joined their Welsh counterparts for two performances, on 20 and 21 July. Christopher has excelled himself with innovative choreography, including a collaborative piece between DFA and Zip Zap Circus. Rehearsal sessions with the international artistic team and some of the participants from Wales took place at the DFA studios in April, at Artscape theatre and at the Zip Zap Circus tent. A duplicate of the Cardiff performance will be staged in Cape Town towards the end of November.
